The do's or don'ts when choosing your wedding accessories.
DO try them on! If there are samples available for you to try on, DO try them on. Sometimes very thin banded tiaras will dig in or not feel secure, you need to know that you will feel comfortable and secure. If possible keep the tiara on for a good ten minutes, if you forget it’s there then it’s comfortable! Bands are a little like shoes and if they have been tried on a lot then they will not be as tight as when they are first made (everyone’s head and volume of hair is different).
DON’T be afraid to ask questions about the components that are used especially if you have a metal allergy. We know where our wire and components come from because we make our items, but when they are bought in from a wholesaler it can be more difficult to know and a shop assistant may not think to tell you things unless you ask. All that sparkles is not Swarovski and if you put a lesser quality crystal or pearl against a high quality crystal or pearl then one will out shine the other. If it is items that will never meet then you may be able to get away with it.
DO ask if they are available in different/your colours. The worst they can say is no.
DON’T spray perfume, hairspray or other hair products directly onto your accessories. It will dull the metal and encourage tarnishing and may leave it sticky too.
DO remember that you will be wearing different clothing! If you know that you are going to try on hair accessories, try to wear a pale colour if your wedding outfit is pale, and try to wear a similar neckline – so if your shoulders will be bare on the wedding day then don’t go shopping in a polo neck jumper as it makes it harder to imagine the overall look.
DON’T be afraid to say no to your bridal shops on accessories. It is very easy to be swept along when you are in a gorgeous dress and you have a sparkly tiara and veil thrust upon you. Step back and think. Does it go with your whole vision of your day? Similarly don’t be afraid to say yes! If you get all the feels like when you first tried the right dress on then go for it.
Ultimately though, it is your day and your choice, try not to worry too much and enjoy the planning as the day whizzes past so quickly.
