What do you most love about running your wedding business?
I love meeting the brides, talking about their wedding preparations and sharing their excitement.
I love getting to know them, meeting their friends and feeling like I am big part of their day.
But, my absolute highlight of my job is when I show them the mirror after completing their makeup, and I see them smile with happiness. I want to make them feel as beautiful as they possibly can & when I can visibly see that this has happened, it makes my job the best job in the world. The best comment I have had is someone say “I never thought I could look like this”.
What has been your biggest achievement in business so far?
After completing my makeup course at Bath Academy of Media Make Up, I began working within the wedding industry. I lacked a lot of confidence and was always comparing myself to other makeup artists on Instagram, who had a typically ‘heavier’ makeup look than myself which was much more fashionable. I could have easily given up at that point, but I believed in my ability and my style.
After a few months, I decided to arrange a styled shoot with other wedding suppliers in order to get some professional images of my work. I knew no one within the industry, but shared an advert on a facebook group with local suppliers called ‘The Wedding Business Circle’. I found some other suppliers who were very keen, so arranged a shoot at Ashton Court estate. I used facebook buying groups to find models (one of which was new to modelling, but has now had 2 cover shoots with wedding magazines!)
The styled shoot was based around ‘Alice and Wonderland’ and it was a fantastic day. I loved the images, but didn’t think that much else would happen. The photographer of the group decided to contact the magazine ‘your Bristol and Somerset wedding magazine’ and they decided to publish our work and even have it as the cover feature!
This was the proudest day of my life and I felt so comfortable of my artistry ability. It made me feel like I could really ‘belong’ within the industry and that I had the talent to do this. The Facebook group & shoot also put me in touch with some fantastic suppliers who are now friends, of which we recommend and work with regularly.
If you were to win, what would this do for your wedding business?
|It would provide me with the confidence and profile to take the leap of doing makeup as my full time job, which is my ultimate dream.|
